Representing lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer and relating social movements, the symbol also is a symbol of peace. The colours reflect diversity. Inspired by Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow", it was designed by the artist Gilbert Baker with revisions since its birth in 1978.
